For what it’s worth, it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you, feel things you’ve never felt before, meet people with a different point of view, and live a life you’re proud of. And if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start over again.” – Eric Roth
A solo female backpacker / English teacher / freelance writer from the Philippines. For more than two years now, I’ve been on the road: traveling, learning more about life and pursuing dreams and happiness.
My travel story is a bit different. I didn’t quit a 9-5 job, didn’t hate a corporate life. I wasn’t unhappy working in a company with a shitty boss or felt that I was stuck. I was unhappy with living.
For years, I struggled with anxiety and depression and was such in a dark place. But during what I hope now the lowest point of my life, I discovered backpacking and fell in love with everything that came with it. I learned so much about the world and myself and found the courage to slowly re-build myself again. Now, while people may think I’m “living the life”, I’m really just someone living life.
Here on the blog, I wish to share my journey about being on the road, where I’ve become the best and happiest version of myself. As this experience has taught me so many amazing things and opened a lot of doors for me, I wish to help and inspire others to do it too.
Because of travel, I learned to become independent, confident, more emphatic and grateful. Diving into different opportunities – becoming an English teacher, a hostel rep, a tour guide, a restaurant/bar staff among many – I’ve also acquired valuable skills and recognized my potential for bigger things. I met amazing people, saw beautiful places and more importantly, gained a different perspective about the world and myself.
Traveling is seen as a luxury where I’m from, but here I would love to show how if it’s something you really want to do, you can make it happen! And it will be soooo worth it.
Aside from travel, the blog is also about my journey to improving myself – when it comes to health, food, productivity, mindfulness, self-love, fitness, skincare and relationships – something I owe to travel too for helping me realize how important it is. It’s still definitely a work in progress, but as this is something I feel everyone should try as well, I’m sharing here my baby steps in hopes of inspiring someone out there.
Seeing different places, meeting all kinds of people and experiencing diverse cultures, I’ve become more involved in certain environmental and social topics, like:
I feel that these are things that should be discussed and so you will see some of my posts regarding these matters. In my own way, I hope I can help and influence others to make a difference.
